Installing SnapEngage is a simple, 3 step process.
- 1. Sign up.
- 2. Install the SnapEngage JavaScript on your site.
- 3. Configure your instant messenger.
Read on for the step-by-step instructions.
1. Sign Up for SnapEngage
Just enter your email address and choose a password. That's all
you need to Sign up for
SnapEngage
2. Install SnapEngage on Your Website
Install SnapEngage by placing the SnapEngage JavaScript in the
footer of every page where you want to make live chat available.
Specific instructions are listed below for a variety of
publishing platforms including WordPress, Joomla, Drupal and
many more.
SnapEngage will not work on blog and website platforms which will not
permit JavaScript. Check our FAQ
for more information.
3. Configure your instant messenger
In the SnapEngage Configurator - Live
Chat tab, simply list the Google Talk or Skype id of each one of your
live chat agents and click Save.
You will then receive new contact requests from visitor
1,2,3,etc... in your instant messenger. You need to accept those
contacts for SnapEngage to be able to detect your online status and
communicate with you. You will chat with your website visitors through
those new IM contacts.

Manual Installation |
To install SnapEngage manually:
- 1. Copy the JavaScript code from within the SnapEngage Configurator from
the Get The Code tab.
- 2. Place the JavaScript in the footer just before the
</body>
of your website on all the pages where you want to use SnapEngage.
- 3. View your website pages’s source code to ensure
SnapEngage’s JavaScript is installed properly.

WordPress |
To install SnapEngage on a WordPress site:
- 1. Go to Appearance > Theme Editor.
- 2. Edit the
footer.php template file in your
WordPress Theme.
- 3. Scroll to the bottom of the file and paste the
SnapEngage JavaScript code from the SnapEngage Configurator - Get
The Code section before the closing
</body> HTML
tag.
- 4. Save the file.
If the closing BODY tag is not in the footer.php
files, it could be in the index.php template file. Edit
it there.
If the files are “unwritable,” please follow the instructions
in Changing
File Permissions in the WordPress Codex, or edit the template file
manually through FTP.

Joomla |
To add the SnapEngage JavaScript code to your Joomla
installation:
In Joomla 1.0.1x
If you are using Joomla 1.0.10, 1.0.11, 1.0.12, 1.0.13, 1.0.14 or
1.0.15 do the following:
- 1. Log on to: www.yoursite.com/administrator/
- 2. In the top menu select: Site >
Template Manager > Site Templates
- 3. Then select the template which is marked as default and
click Edit HTML
In Joomla 1.5
If you are using Joomla 1.5, 1.51 do the following:
- 1. Log on to: www.yoursite.com/administrator/
- 2. In the top menu select: Extensions >
Template Manager
- 3. Now select the template which is marked as default and
click Edit
- 4. In the template edit page click Edit

Adding the code within the template
If you have followed the steps above you should now be looking at
your template's HTML.
- 5. Scroll right down to the bottom of all this code
-
- 6. On the second to bottom line you should see the tag
</body>
- 7. You need to paste your SnapEngage code from the SnapEngage Configurator - Get
The Code tab, just before this tag.
- 8. Now press save and SnapEngage is
installed on your website!

Drupal |
There are several choices to install SnapEngage on Drupal:
- a. See “Adding
JavaScript to your theme or module” by Drupal with instructions to
add the SnapEngage JavaScript to your Theme’s
.info
file.
- b. Install it manually by opening the folder and file for
your footer area in Drupal, paste the SnapEngage JavaScript from
the SnapEngage Configurator - Get
The Code tab before the
</body> closing tag, and
save the file.

Tumblr |
To install SnapEngage on a tumblr blog:
- 1. On the Tumblr Dashboard, choose Customize.
- 2. Go to Theme > Use Custom HTML.
- 3. Scroll down to the bottom of the HTML file and place
the SnapEngage JavaScript between the last
</div>
and the </body> HTML tags.
- 4. Click Update Preview.
- 5. Check the web page’s source code to ensure the
SnapEngage JavaScript is visible at the bottom of the page.

Magento |
To install SnapEngage on a Magento online store:
- 1. Visit our Magento Connect plugin page.
- 2. Click on the Get Extension Key button.
- 3. Go to your Magento Admin panel in the Magento
Connect Manager.
- 4. Paste the Extension Key and click Install.
- 5. Return to your Magento Admin panel to System
> Configuration > Faarao > SnapEngage.
- 6. Configure the SnapEngage module and Enable it.

Here are the basic steps for adding the SnapEngage JavaScript to the HubSpot CMS.
You need the widget code to appear on all pages (like tracking code):
- 1. Go in the Settings menu (top right corner of the screen) and select Website Settings.
- 2. Scroll down to Body Footer Html.
- 3. Paste the SnapEngage JavaScript code from
the SnapEngage Configurator - Get
The Code tan in that box.
The SnapEngage code (from the Get the code tab) can be set to display or not a button on the side of the page.
If you are also using a dynamic button, then you should follow the steps above to put the javascript code in all pages, and then add the button code (from the SnapEngage Live Chat tab, Advanced section) as an HTML/Javascript module.
